Richter's War: Case of the Ghostly Séance by Daniel P. Douglas is the third book in the Richter’s War series. Detective Geno Richter is on the hunt for Nazi spies in WWII Los Angeles. Staking out the Central Library, Richter finds himself caught up in an ages-old conspiracy, a plan by the Nazis to use supernatural forces for their evil plans to rule the world. Anna Torres is a former Marine Corps nurse, and she joins Richter on the hunt as he is drawn into one of the highest-stakes wars ever fought. Evil entities, double agents, and more spooks than one could imagine stand in his way but Geno never gives in. He’s not only fighting to save the world, but he’s also fighting his own demons too, and needs all the help he can get. Will he succeed or will humanity be lost forever?

Richter’s War: Case of the Ghostly Séance by Daniel P. Douglas is a fantastic read. Written in the first person, it feels as though you are listening to the main protagonist telling his story, watching events unfold from the sidelines. This is action all the way, as Richter hunts down the Nazi spies on a rollercoaster journey that will have you hanging on for dear life. It’s not just about ghostly goings-on and spies, though; this is also about facing your own demons and living to fight another day. The characters are wonderfully well-developed into people you can relate to, in-depth yet with a lightness that makes them easy to understand. If you like war-era stories and the supernatural with more than a little evil thrown in for good measure, you’ll love this story.

World War II had seen the United States become a hotbed for espionage activities from rival nationalities and political movements, specifically the Nazis. There were speculations that Professor Emil Durak (a Nazi sympathizer) was busy scheming a Nazi agenda from a library in Los Angeles. With the help of Anna Torres, an ex-marine, sleuth Eugene Richter sets out to investigate the allegations. However, the pair realize there might be more than just a Nazi agenda in Durak’s case. It turns out Professor Durak is involved in an ancient supernatural realm. What exactly is Durak up to? Will Eugene, alias Geno, and his partner get to the bottom of it all? Find out how it all goes down in Daniel P. Douglas’s Richter’s War: Case of the Ghostly Seance.

I could hardly put this book down as soon as I started reading it. Daniel P. Douglas steadily whisked me away from reality and got me aboard his craft of imagination with this unfolding story. Featuring long and twisted sentences, the narration maintains a delicate line between imagination and reality. He aligns his thoughts uniquely, merging a great sense of wit with impressively vivid depictions. The action scenes are tremendously dramatic and intense. The characters were exciting and amazingly developed. It seemed that no one was able to make Detective Richter back down from his hot pursuit for answers. He is an accomplished and experienced hard-boiled sleuth. I loved Daniel P. Douglas’s Ritcher’s War: Case of the Ghostly Seance and I’m looking forward to reading more of his work.

A few interesting events play out in Richter’s War: Case of the Ghostly Séance by Daniel P. Douglas. Professor Emile Durak is preparing to fulfill an ancient prophecy and needs someone who can translate Akkadian. He is suspected of using the Los Angeles Central Library for meetings with Nazi agents. Geno Richter is on a stakeout to find what Durak is up to and a Marine Corps nurse, Anna Torres, is assigned to help him with this case. Richter feels and sees ghosts and is startled at first. He talks to them and discovers that his father is one of their number. Madame Montagne is connected to Amarud and is writing the Text of Uhaimir. The librarian Kenna Lawson can translate Akkadian and is drawn into these events. Richter’s father was captured by Amarud, and the fight became personal; he has to save him.

Richter’s War by Daniel P. Douglas has a complex and exciting plot. The story is fast-paced and full of action but never felt rushed. I was intrigued from the beginning and could not put it down. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat. There was never a dull moment and the chapters flowed into each other. The fighting was very descriptive and I could see it in my mind and, at times, I could feel the cold evil around me. The characters were excellently developed, and I could relate to them. The story is well written and exceeded my expectations. The author created a world where an ancient evil entity exists, and I was part of this supernatural world for a while.
