Roman Rescue by Michelle Gilliam is an exciting, suspenseful thriller novel set in Italy. Fear has always been a major part of Maggie's life and to combat it she runs, literally and figuratively. Maggie broke up with her boyfriend and has flown to Rome to visit her brother, Paul. Fear went with her. Luke and Kayla are Paul's married friends and allow Maggie to stay at their apartment. Luke and Paul are Marines that work at the American Embassy and are very protective of the two girls. Paul's girlfriend is pregnant, but won't see him any longer and tells him that she has had a miscarriage. But has she? Maggie is determined to find out the truth.
With fear sitting on her shoulder and incessantly whispering in her ear, Maggie ignores the concerns of her brother and his friend and strikes out on her own. Her dogged determination to be in control of her life sets some dangerous incidents in motion, placing everyone she cares about in danger. Luke and Kayla's apartment is burned, and the Italian Mafia kidnap her and Kayla. The embassy is bombed, and Luke and Paul have disappeared. Are they alive and how are they connected to all these events? Is anybody who they say they are? Listening to fear has done little to help her, so can Maggie exorcise it permanently? Can she make amends to those who are suffering the aftermath of the experience?
Finding faith and overcoming traumatic events are the key notes in this fantastic thriller, Roman Rescue by Michelle Gilliam. It has a Jason Bourne-like story line with memorable characters. Each and every one of the characters showed the evidence of personal growth. Each one of their stories was touching and admirable. This a well-written novel with an exciting plot that has a few unexpected twists. It is refreshing to read such a suspenseful thriller with only a hint of violence and sex. Without excessive gore, it helped the story flow smoothly. The author finishes with a profession of her faith. This is a marvelous book that thriller and mystery fans won't want to miss!
