Carrie Green's collection of short stories in Roses Are Red were compelling and well-written. She developed each character with creative detail and presented each story in a fluid, cohesive, logical and organized manner.
My favorite story in this book was the one titled, "A Long Distance Relationship." It reminded me of a Twilight Zone episode where there's a twist that occurs due to the guilt and anxiety suffered by the criminal after the crime, making him hallucinate. The image of the phone booth looking like it was mocking him was pure genius.
In "Cash Only," the author presents the sad tale of a criminal on the run and the bounty hunter who is after her. Sold out by a drug addict for $20.00, is she more in jeopardy from her own depression or from the man who wants to take her to jail?
Author Carrie Green has great potential as a writer, but she desperately needs a good quality editor before she produces any additional works. With so many misspelled and misused words, I wanted to quit reading the book, but the stories were just so good, I was able to overlook them.
This would be a good book for someone to take with them when they're waiting for appointments as each story only takes a little while to read, and the reader can take breaks between each story. It would be interesting to read a full-length novel by this author.
