We often live our lives as secondary characters, not as the main characters and directors that we are. This is largely because we often fail to look inward, into ourselves. We blame our family, friends, and even ourselves for everything. So we just go through the motions, angry, tired, or whatever the case may be. Rotten Minerva: Be an Unruly Warrior and Embark on a Spiritual Quest by Kelli Hastings guides the reader on a spiritual journey to find their truth and live as their most authentic self.
Note that spirituality does not equate to religion. This is one of the truths that Rotten Minerva demonstrated. Without approving or criticizing existing religions, Kelli Hastings advances spirituality. Yoga (not physical poses) is a huge part of Kelli’s experience, so there are a lot of yoga terms used in the narrative. But they weren’t distracting; on the contrary, I was glad to pick up a few new words. More so, I was awed by the awareness this book brought me. In addition to its deep spiritual content, Rotten Minerva was filled with infectious humor and interesting experiences.
Rotten Minerva is a short audiobook—as short as a long sermon. It was narrated by its author, which made the audio feel more personal. The narration was seamless and captivating, and I could feel all the emotions as I listened. This audiobook was a wholesome and unique experience for me, and I eagerly recommend it to anyone who cares to live more freely. I look forward to reading Rotten Minerva 2 for more insightful, “unqualified” opinions.
