In Running Into Me: A Memoir of Resilience, Elisemarie DiCarlo traces a journey marked by personal loss, medical diagnoses without cures, and battles with addiction. She confronts the irreversible nature of certain wrongs, experiences the theft of her inheritance, and endures the removal of her sanctuary. Throughout these hardships, her life is shaped by the steadfast faith and guidance of her devoted parents, transformative moments in recovery, and the support of close friends and family. She experiences miraculous healing and renewed hope that emerges even when in the throes of massive adversity, illustrating the effects of prayer, optimism, and unwavering reliance on God. Her memoir offers a detailed portrayal of how faith and relationships influence a path through unexpected trials toward renewed purpose and gratitude.
“Now I live to serve God and His kids... I am utterly transparent if it means someone will be helped.” Running Into Me by Elisemarie DiCarlo is unique as a memoir, as it is not just a series of events, but a discussion of their meaning and her transformation. We see despair, like contemplating suicide and struggling with anger, to finding hope and healing through therapy, A.A., and faith. Her progression from pain to purpose demonstrates a lifetime arc of resilience and recovery that is central to the impact of the book. Despite the heavy subject matter, DiCarlo balances sorrow with small moments of joy and gratitude, sharing a scene at a baseball game with her children, a huge contrast to a scene of nursing home gloom. These lighter moments show the full range of life’s emotions and demonstrate how even the most overwhelmingly bleak days can transition into something wonderful. Overall, this is a great memoir and Christian testimonial. Very highly recommended.
