Author Biography

An American born self-taught writer of Anglo-Celtic European and Asiatic descent, C. JoyBell C. grew up in-between cultures and bridging borders, prefers the feel of airports and train stations, and is awe-inspired when exposed to unknown languages and new terrain! She is famed for her philosophical ponderings, well- known for her poetry, prose, novel writing, and loved for her genuine sincerity. In all likelihood, she is enjoying a train ride at the moment whilst wearing rose-colored glasses and munching on cherries!

C. JoyBell C. takes us to France and back in time to 1948, where we become voyeurs to a dinner date filled with conversation. As this couple has dinner, we are introduced to two longtime friends (or is it more?). It is through their dinner and conversation that we learn what has brought them together on this one night at the restaurant. The author writes a wonderful description of the restaurant and the owner, making it feel more like a memory than a story. We learn about the history between these two people just from "listening in" to their conversation and reading about their own thoughts and memories.

I really enjoyed how, as the evening goes on, we are given more and more information about the history of this couple. I felt as though I were a spy listening in on a personal conversation. I was able to follow the conversation and lived each emotion as the evening went on. It was a wonderful way to feel like I went back in time and was observing a slice of someone else's life. It was a perfect escape!! I found myself intrigued as each new clue was discovered. I loved the author's details about the setting. I could see the restaurant in my mind and became more and more curious about the years leading up to this one evening. It is a novella and a short easy read with a surprise ending. It is a great book to escape with!!!
