Saltwater Stranger by Dianna Brown is a haunting story filled with family drama and unsettling supernatural intrigue. John and his daughter, Evelyn, are used to crows' warnings. But with this specific crow, Evelyn senses a warning tied to Kelly’s Island in Conception Bay. This place is rumored to possess a will of its own. When a violent storm forces Evelyn and her family to seek shelter there, her fears begin to materialize. Evelyn saw a mysterious man in a black wetsuit and snorkelling mask, his presence both fleeting and unnerving. Only Evelyn could see this man. On Kelly's Island, Evelyn's daughter, Anna, disappears, starting a desperate search by her family for her. Reality blurs with dreamlike recollections during Evelyn’s search. She leaves the island with a skeleton key, ignoring the warning that nothing taken from Kelly's Island leaves without consequences.
Saltwater Stranger by Dianna Brown is a whirlwind of suspense and mystery. The plot is fast-paced, but it gave me enough time to process everything before the next event. The characters were realistic and relatable. Every character has a special place in this outstanding mystery. Kelly’s Island was a character in its own right. It was unsettling and possessive. The writing style was out of this world. I could feel the danger lurking around every corner as it followed Evelyn and her family home. The blurred line between Evelyn’s dreams and reality enhances the eerie tone. I never knew what to expect next, and was sitting on the edge of my seat. The book was brilliantly written and held my attention from start to finish.
