Scared Witchless (Bless Your Witches Book 1) by Amy Boyles is an amusing witch fiction story about three sisters, Dylan, Seraphina and Reid. When Reid was a baby, their parents died in a car accident and the three sisters went to live with their grandmother. Three years ago their grandmother became mute and unresponsive and now they take care of her with Nan's help. Despite these things, they lead fairly normal lives. Dylan creates and sews clothing and sells it in her store, Perfect Fit. In Sinless Confections, the store next door, Seraphina, with Reid at her side, creates and sells baked goods. A few weeks before Summer Solstice, the newspaper does an article on their stores, raving about their products and calling them 'magickal.' Expecting great things to come from the article, they get far more than they bargained for. A few days later, one of Dylan's customers decides that she wants Dylan's dress. Dylan finally gives in and lets her try it on. The woman combusts and dies in flames. It's obvious that Dylan was the intended victim. Who wants Dylan dead, and why? Did it have something to do with the news article?
Scared Witchless (Bless Your Witches Book 1) by Amy Boyles is a fun read. I loved this book. It had me giggling from the first page. Dylan's sassy attitude and cynical way of thinking is amusing and kept my nose in the book way past dinner time. I loved the verbal tit for tat that Dylan gave her high school arch-nemesis, Reagan. I thought it was too bad she was murdered because the dialogue between the two was smashing! The book was entertaining and engaging all the way to the last page. If you like Amanda M. Lee's Wicked Witches of the Midwest series, then you will feel right at home with Dylan, Sera and Reid.
