Second Chances is the first book in the Winter Moon Trilogy by Karsyn Joy. After the murder of her fated mate and infant child, Brinley Jameson simply could not function. As an Alpha triplet, Britney had her siblings, Jaxon and Brooklyn, to assist but it had been five years of night terrors and suicide attempts since the loves of Brinley's life had died. A new setting is desperately in order, so Brinley moves to the Black Diamond pack so she can heal. For the first time, she sleeps soundly without medication. Yet still emotionally numb, Brinley is unable to sense that her second chance mate is right under her nose. This is rectified as soon as her mating mark is removed by the Moon Goddess. When she changes into her wolf, Brinley knows immediately that Alpha Tate of the Black Diamond pack is her mate. Finally, her wolf, Amanda, can mourn the tragedy of losing their mate and daughter. But with evil plans, treason, murder plots, and scheming afoot, Brinley and Tate are about to encounter a new kind of hell, which entails both of their pasts.
Karsyn Joy's exciting new wolf pack tale sent tingles up my spine, as well as causing me to shed many tears. Second Chances set up the back story perfectly. Not only did the reader have to patiently wait and see what exactly had happened to cause such a massive trauma, but they also had to hold onto their britches until the next chapter came along. One of the evil characters was a bad apple that didn't fall far from the tree, but I was still shocked, nonetheless. So many issues come up in pack life, especially when a wannabe mate vows to take out a fated mate. I am very much looking forward to reading about the upcoming war between the rogues and pack members, many more loved-up times between alphas, betas, and gammas, and the gore-fest that comes next. I feel sure that die-hard fans of the paranormal genre will be fully pulled into the thrill of the camaraderie between the Winter Moon pack, the Black Diamond pack, and the war that awaits. I wholeheartedly recommend Second Chances to paranormal fans.
