Nora surmises that her summer will be boring because they are in The Boar’s Summit for her history project. But Nora gets more than she wished for when she and her new friend, Tomik, are transported to an ancient empire while out at night exploring the old ruined castle. It was prophesied that two foreigners will come the kingdom in its time of need and Thaddeus von Hayek, the Emperor’s physician, believes that Nora and Tomik are those two foreigners. Chamberlain Philip Lang doesn’t want to believe that these two kids will be their saviors and does everything he can to throw them out. Read how the two children will help save the empire in Secrets of the Alchemist: Order of Hermes (Book One) by J.L. Burger.
It’s not a boring summer after all for Nora and Tomik in Secrets of the Alchemist. This book made history very interesting. It was an action packed and absorbing read; each chapter offers a new and exciting adventure. It was also funny and entertaining. No dull moments for Nora, Tomik, and Henry in this story. Henry is so cute and Jepp, although a jester, has a tough personality. The responses and reactions of the emperor and other characters to everyday gadgets are comical and amusing. Characters were great, narration was fluid, the ending was awesome - overall, an incredible book. It is a story which targets young adults and children, but I can guarantee that even adults will enjoy this adventure story by J.L. Burger.
