Seedtime and Harvest: Volume 1 by Derrick Davis is an inspirational poetry anthology. Davis’ Christian faith is on full display in every line of every poem of this collection. Fittingly, the first poem is titled Content with the contents of Christ. This book consists of sixteen thought-provoking poems. In these pages, Davis shares his testimony and encourages you to surrender your life in its entirety to the lordship of Jesus Christ. That is, to allow the way you view your identity, purpose, relationships, and money to be shaped by God’s word. Davis does not shy away from exposing and denouncing sinful thoughts and deeds in his own life. He acknowledges that Christians are not Christ, but that we are all called to live a life worthy of the gospel.

As a non-denominational Christian and poetry enthusiast, I thoroughly enjoyed Seedtime and Harvest by Derrick Davis. Every poem was filled with wisdom and grace. Although this masterpiece may be brushed aside by some as just for Christians, I highly recommend this book to everyone. I enjoyed how Davis made use of intriguing rhyme schemes without compromising his message. Some of the poems read like rap song lyrics. Additionally, I appreciated being challenged to become more intimate with God. Davis was not judging anyone for what state they find themselves in. Rather, I felt encouraged not to settle for unequally yoked romantic relationships or the vanities of life. Seeing that this is volume 1, I look forward to reading volume 2 of this series.

Growing up as a Christian has its own phases and challenges. Our spiritual journey tends to be complicated at times. That's where this book comes in. Seedtime and Harvest: Volume 1 is a book by Derrick Davis. He is a renowned author who puts poetry and inspiration into practice. The title of the book itself comes from the scripture Genesis 8:22, aiming to interpret how the world works. The poems reflect on God's purpose in our lives and how we can be drawn closer to Him. The author talks about how validation plays a key role in determining the kind of outcome that is suitable in our lives. He incorporates factors like wealth, prestige, relationships, and pride of life. He tries to educate us on the value of wisdom, especially when it comes to knowing where we stand spiritually.

First of all, I'd like to complement the title of this book. It has a fulfilling purpose that carries behind it a significant meaning. As emphasized, our greatness is futile without God. For us to attain the utmost respect, it is better to uphold the value and trust we put in ourselves and others. In my opinion, the message conveyed here is exceptional. There are a lot of poems that speak in a similar manner throughout this book. But each has its own unique appeal. However, one thing I didn't find appealing about this book is its overall structure and layout. There was no need to number out each poem. This doesn't facilitate the reading process. Nevertheless, I do credit the author for an absolutely profound work of writing. The message resonates with readers of all ages, including young and old. This book may even act as a source of guidebook as it contains key valuable insights about life.
