Amber Phil arrives at Eryden University to study medicine in Selecting The Wrong Love by E. Masson and Julie G. Henry. Soon after, she meets James McGill, a supremely nice business student who becomes a close friend and a part of her everyday routine. As the coursework intensifies and financial pressure shapes her choices, Amber's path shifts toward Levi Emir, a driven medical student with similar ambitions. University life gives way to adult responsibilities as Amber moves through education, work, and family commitments, guided by the decisions made years earlier. Past connections continue to influence her circumstances in indirect ways as she balances her ambitions with obligations. When a later encounter introduces her to Rian Ekinley, Amber is at another point of transition. The story follows Amber across time, showing how James, Levi, and Rian each enter her life at moments that redirect its course.

Selecting The Wrong Love by E. Masson and Julie G. Henry is a wonderful contemporary romance that moves from youthful attachment into adult reckoning, allowing readers to follow Amber and recognize how early emotional choices echo years later through work, family, and financial reality. I love books that lean into pure womanhood, and this is charted through Amber’s decisions to postpone medical training, prioritize marriage, and later shoulder single parenthood to raise Lucas. The settings are textured and brought to life, from university corridors and hospital wards to cramped apartments and a childhood home reclaimed. There is a sharp twist that I did not see coming for Amber, who has mercifully not been forgotten, and I was faintly reminded of Magwitch from the classic Great Expectations. James, Levi, and Rian are written distinctly: one patient and self-sacrificing, one driven yet self-serving, one impulsive and disruptive. As the first book in a series, I look forward to seeing where it goes next
