A community hunt turns bloody when soldiers from another region attack the peaceful citizens in the exciting fantasy novel, Serenity War (A Noble Series Book) by J.D. Richardson. Several centuries ago, humans left Earth in the Arc and chose to colonize the planet Noble. Everyone worked together to colonize the planet, but in time, the individual settlements evolved into Clusters. Serenity housed the original governing administrations, including the military, and insisted on being the ruling government for all. However, not everyone wanted to be ruled by a dictatorship, and a war ensued, resulting in a division into multiple clusters ruling themselves. The descendants of those rebel clusters now peacefully live among the treetops and mudflats, until now, the day of the annual boneskull fish hunt. During the hunt, Serenity simultaneously attacks the boats and homes of the hunters. Kahlo and his oldest brother, Hale, are the only two members of his family who survive the assault on the hunting party. A war has begun, and they are right in the middle of it. What will happen to the peace they have so diligently preserved? Enemy patrols are searching the land for survivors to place into prison camps. Can Kahlo and Hale survive long enough to fight for their rights?

Serenity War by J.D. Richardson is a fascinating science fiction novel that captivates the imagination from the very first page. I was very impressed with how well the storyworld was built. Although the story is fantasy, the storyworld follows scientific principles that give it a realistic quality. I thought the political aspects of Serenity were well portrayed and gave the foundation of the plot a genuine feel. The unusual environment, climate, and distinctive culture of the different clusters create an authentic and unique world. I enjoyed watching Kahlo, Artemis, and Rayne’s characters develop and how their relationships are intertwined. This is an irresistible book that everyone who loves science fiction laced with action will want to read. I can’t wait to read the sequel!
