Author Biography

About the Author
Born and raised in Houston, TX, self-published author and freelance writer Brian Bowers is a graduate of Oberlin College. Prior to graduating from Oberlin College in 2008 with a degree in Sociology, a Professor encouraged the young writer’s creative ability after reviewing a final project submission entitled “Half-Thoughts.” After spending a semester abroad studying music and photography in Cairo, Egypt, he found himself drawn to the idea of sustaining and unifying diverse cultures through all forms of creative expression.

Not considering himself a ‘true writer,’ Bowers would spend the next four years randomly scribbling on napkins and scratch paper the lines that would become his first book, Shadows Chasing Light. With a title inspired by a line from Rabindranath Tagore’s Gitanjali, Bowers’ first work is a poetic narrative exploring a wide range of emotions and experiences.

In addition to writing, the self-proclaimed ‘multi-medium’ artist is also a singer, pianist and photographic hobbyist. The author currently resides in Houston, TX and looks forward to exploring the world through creativity, thus broadening his knowledge and experience of spirituality, life, love and the human experience.

From the moment I opened this book I could feel the tenderness of the words slip from its pages. There are moments of reflection, renewing, and even rewinding within our lives where we wish we could do things over again. There are moments that pull you into the page as though you have penned the words looking deep within your soul. Within the pages are thoughts concerning truth, freedom and so much more. How does one experience real truth and express freedom within one's life in all one does and possesses? The section on "Sole Searching" is breathtaking. It is very enriching and rewarding and I feel that the message is an integral part of this book. I feel such reality within the words that I relate to in every detail. This is a beautifully written piece, a beautifully written piece of art. Not only the writing, but the style also attracts readers. There are pictures included between the sections and the last portion is written in handwriting rather than typed, which offers a sense of closeness to the author and what he is trying to convey to the reader.

I felt deeply while reading this book. These were more than words on a page. What we find are rather real, raw, true meaning that reaches into the hearts of the readers to stir and move them. If you enjoy reading a book that has a unique style, then you will need to check out this fine piece of work. Be prepared to be challenged by the author’s pure words. You will surely come to know that you are not alone, that someone stands there with you.
