Author Biography

Michael H. Balfour, DDS, is a Connecticut-based general dentist whose life is defined by a passion for health, academic excellence, and the art of storytelling. Originally from Jamaica, Michael moved to the United States to pursue his education, earning a degree in Chemistry before completing his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. Alongside his clinical practice, he is a devoted husband to a fellow dentist and a proud father of two daughters, Olivia and Vanessa.

Michael’s journey as an author began under challenging circumstances. Following a life-changing diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes, he began chronicling his experiences on his smartphone—a process that eventually evolved into his first published work, A Concise Guide to Managing Diabetes. Finding the writing process therapeutic, Michael expanded into the world of fiction, creating the riveting Dante Villehart series, which includes Shadows in the Creek, Death in the Manor, and Knight In Gale: Vengeance.

A survivor of both diabetes and prostate cancer, Michael uses his personal battles with health to infuse his novels—such as the yet unpublished Three Months Unbound—with authentic themes of resilience and redemption. When he isn’t with patients or his family, Michael enjoys composing music and developing new stories that remind readers of life’s fragility and the enduring power of the human spirit.

In Shadows in the Creek by Michael H. Balfour, Dante Villehart moved to the quiet town of Edenvale. Dante was hoping that distance from his past would bring clarity and peace. That hope is shattered when Lila Summers is found brutally murdered at the edge of Willow Creek. Dante knew Lila from the Channel 8 Bureau in Stamford, where she once interned. Lila’s murder sent shockwaves through the community of Edenvale. Dante became involved in the investigation after the mayor asked someone from outside to oversee the investigation. Dante works alongside Detective Ingrid Carlisle. As Dante digs deeper, he realizes that Edenvale's polished image hides unsettling truths. The illusion Edenvale depends on would collapse if the truth comes to light. Dante promised himself that he would not make the same mistake again. This time, he will verify the facts before presenting them.

Shadows in the Creek by Michael H. Balfour is an intriguing read. The pace was steady, with tension building in chapter after chapter. I had a hard time putting the book down; I was too invested to find out what would happen next. The characters were realistic and relatable. Dante was determined to deliver just the truth to the people of Edenvale, after the mistake he had made in his past. The small town of Edenvale was a character in itself; nothing and nobody was supposed to disrupt the way everything was going in the town. The book was brilliantly written and kept my attention throughout. I could not have wished for a better ending after everything that had happened. This story lingered with me for a while.
