Mary had been placed on desk duty following an incident that had put the town in an uproar. For almost four weeks she sat at her desk, wondering about the fate of her career. She was almost thankful when the chief sent her back to the field. Her sleepy town had become a hotspot for strange happenings. Crop vandalism, markings left on walls, nuisance reports, disturbances, even the pets seemed to be going crazy. Then there was Webb. He appeared from nowhere and knew more than anyone should about these unusual events. Something was happening, and Mary was determined to uncover the truth, no matter whose toes she had to step on. But is she ready for the answers, and for the consequences her actions will bring?

As a character, she was a strong lead and everything you would expect and want her to be. Written in a gripping third-person, Shadows in the Night will grab your attention with easy flowing writing and a plot you can't help but lose yourself in. Mystery, intrigue, and strange happenings will keep you glued to the page as you join Mary in her quest to uncover the truth.

Shadows in the Night by Jason L Henderson is a book worth reading. This horror fiction tale has unusual activity beginning in a small Midwest town. Mary, a local police officer who has been benched because she is under investigation, is dedicated to her town and protective of her elderly neighbor. She gets closer than anyone to understanding the wave of crime and killing about to hit her town. Edna, who lives next door, seems to be one of the selected citizens, but by whom and for what purpose? No one is prepared for the surge of terror and dread that shakes this community. Will Mary find the clue that connects her to this invasion in time? A better question is, can she stop it?

Jason L. Henderson is an up-and-coming author that will shake your belief in the unknown. Shadows in the Night is well written with characters you would find in any small town, giving you the feeling that this nightmare could happen in your town or just down the road. With the author’s creative plot and the steady pace of the mysterious events, my skin was crawling before I got to the end of this book. I loved how the story centered on Mary and Edna, then the author revealed an incident in the past that gave a clue, only to take off in a different direction. Shadows in the Night is skillfully written with pockets of action and mystery woven within. I felt the author could build on this novel as there is more that could be said about Mary and the knowledge that was bestowed upon her. I found this book captivating and enchanting from the beginning. I couldn’t put it down until I was finished.

Shadows in the Night by Jason L. Henderson is the story of a small-town police officer who is trying to find figure out who and what is causing the disturbances in the lives of her people. Mary was living a happy and content life in her small Midwestern town, but an accidental shooting had her demoted to desk duty. She is a police officer who takes her duty very seriously, even if she is stuck behind her desk all day long. However, when sudden disturbances start occurring in her town, she is taken off desk duty and given a chance to redeem herself. Soon she realizes that the damaged crops, missing animals and other occurrences are not only strange but sinister in a way. To make matters worse, she has seen a strange man in their small community and she has suspicions that they have something to do with him. Her first priority is to keep her family and her community safe, but for that, she needs to know what is happening here and this stranger seems to be the clue. What will she do now?

Shadows in the Night by Jason L. Henderson was surprisingly good. I was not expecting to be this invested in the story or for it to be this enjoyable. The author has done a great job at creating a suspicious yet very mysterious atmosphere. It reeled me in and had me wanting to read more. While reading about aliens or anything from this category can become clichéd very quickly, Jason Henderson ensured that it remained original yet entertaining at the same time. Mary is an awesome protagonist, one that treats threats like a threat; she respects the danger, which is why she can tackle it better. I loved reading her reactions and I loved reading this novel! Sinister in the best possible way!
