"Share The Dream: Mountain Biking Rock Opera" by Michael Eugene Hall is the tale of a young boy and his love of mountain biking. Our narrator Shannon is also the lead character in this book. The Collins family was still mourning the loss of their mother. Shannon’s dad seemed to live life in a trance and his sister Sissy had mood swings but his brother Jason seemed to have adjusted to the loss. His daddy wanted Shannon to join the military just like his grandfather. Much to his brother’s mirth, Shannon’s dreams centered on mountain biking. When Shannon and his grandpa picked up his new bike they met a champion bike rider, Mike proudly, who displayed his trophies in his shop. He encouraged Shannon to enter a race the following weekend. With hard work, Shannon’s dreams began to come true.
Michael Eugene Hall successfully accomplishes two goals in his book "Share The Dream: Mountain Biking Rock Opera". The first is to shine light on the sport of mountain biking and the second is to examine family relationships. I know several young adults involved in mountain biking; they dearly love the sport. While there will be those who scoff at that statement, mountain biking is a very serious endeavor. Hall has spent much time researching biking and it is evident in the book. The characters are well-rounded and interesting. The plot will appeal to a wide age group. "Share The Dream" is an encouraging book and will be an inspiration to youth.
