Chanel and I have written our autobiography: SIGNING WITH A HEAVY HAND AND HEART, love mommy. If you look on amazon books and check out the reviews, you will see our book has been well reviewed.
Chanel has won many awards for her efforts to put an end to a 100% preventable birth defect: Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. Our book is based on Chanel's struggles while living with FAS. She has allowed me to share some very VERY personal stories about her behaviors all to save babies from falling victim to FAS.
One of the awards she has won " The National Yes I can Award" can be viewed on youTube by entering "Chanel Torres" in the YouTube search bar.
Chanel is my ROCK!
We are hoping to share her story on with as many people as possible. Help us to spread the word about the dangers of drinking any amount of alcohol while pregnant , this can harm the fetus for LIFE. There is NO cure.

"Signing with a Heavy Hand and Heart, Love Mommy" is a very touching and inspirational book describing the life of a baby born with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. This book describes the everyday struggles and challenges a family had to face while raising a child with FAS. In the beginning of the book, foster mom Sondra Torres expresses her love for a baby girl born with FAS by the name of Elizabeth. Once Elizabeth was in her care, it was challenging because babies born with FAS are sometimes difficult to care for. Sondra explains how she endured the constant loud crying for years despite every calming effort she could think of. Through it all she was very much in love with baby Elizabeth. Sondra Torress talks about her daughter's emotions and actions and explains that some of these actions are due to the FAS. This book takes you through the journey of Elizabeth's life and teaches that there is still hope for children suffering from FAS.

This is an excellent book. The events in this book help a person visualize what Sondra Torres went through with her daughter. This book was very informative because before reading this I really didn't have any knowledge about FAS. However, I did know that it was not good for a woman to drink alcohol while pregnant because the baby could be born with health problems and birth defects. This books takes a deeper look at what can happen to a fetus if a woman drinks while pregnant. After reading this book I got the urge to learn more about FAS.

There is no way of knowing what FAS is like and raising a child with FAS until you experience the trials yourself. I hope this book raises awareness so no other child has to live with this preventable disability. I have 4 adopted children with this disease and each day is a different struggle even though they are now teenagers.

I am proud of my Loving Angel sister Sondra and her beautiful adopted daughter Chanel who together wrote this book! It is educational and an eye opener for those who don't know exactly what FAS "Fetal Alcohol Syndrome" is. The book gives you an insight to the serious consequences and affects of what drinking alcohol does to the unborn baby during pregnancy. Sondra and Chanel invite you into their families journey so you can better understand what FAS is. They share their experiences and emotions of their trials and tribulations over the years. Chanel now an adult, has teamed up with her mother and together they have made it their mission to do everything possible to educate others and put an end to STOP FAS. FAS is 100% preventable.
