Silver Hollow by Jennifer Silverwood is the first book in the Borderlands Saga. Amie Wentworth has lived her life through her career writing fantasy stories. Ten years ago, she lost everything and only kept it together with the help of her closest friends. A mysterious letter from an uncle she never knew about request her presence at his country estate. As if that wasn’t strange enough, in the midst of preparing for a friend’s homecoming, she’s murdered in an alley only to be saved when a mysterious Brit brings her back to life. Next thing she knows, she’s on her way to her uncle’s estate where she discovers a magical world and people that are determined to unlock who she is. As memories resurface and her life becomes crazier with every new revelation, Amie uncovers shocking secrets about her family, the mysterious man that saved her life, and her own past.
Mystery is woven into the story through a mysterious uncle who requests her presence, the British man that saves her life, and the startling murder in the ally that ends her life. These elements quickly draw her into a magical world that is as dangerous as it is surprising. Jennifer Silverwood fills this world with etiquette and rules that Amie slowly discovers through various mishaps along the way. Snippets of her writing and her dreams are threaded throughout which are crucial aspects of her character. These are catalysts to her memories which are slowly helping her regain who she once was. Emrys is a delightful character going from a mysterious Brit to a complex love interest. Silverwood unveils the tragedy of his character through the romantic connection he has with Amie and through her discovery of her past. Silverwood has a true feel for the essence of the character which shows through the chemistry and banter between him and Amie. Their relationship is at the core of the story though their dynamic doesn’t take away from the personal journey of self-discovery that Amie takes.
The story is full of surprises and delights as Silverwood blends suspense, action, and romance into Amie’s story that finds her on a journey of destiny, memory, and discovery. The story also places a fun twist on the Seelie and Unseelie Courts as Silverwood gives fresh takes on the mythology in an exciting and mind-bending world. Silver Hollow is an addictive and enchanting read with a fun voice, engaging characters, a complex romance, and a harrowing adventure.
