Sir Pigglesworth's Adventures in Pigeon Forge: Sir Pigglesworth Adventure Series, Book 8 is a travel and adventure series for children, grades k-3, written by JoAnn Wagner and illustrated by David Darchicourt. Sir Pigglesworth couldn’t believe his luck when he got a personal invitation from Dolly herself to take part in her Dolly Parton Stampede Dinner Theater Finale. He figured he’d need to practice for his performance and pretended he was a bull as he ran at the dinner table and butted his mom in the process. Unfortunately, the bowl of gravy she was carrying upended and landed on top of his dad’s head, but the excited pig’s announcement helped his parents overlook the mess he just created. There was so much to do in Pigeon Forge, so many places to visit and adventures to be had. Before he knew it, Sir Pigglesworth was on his way to the airport where he met his friend JoAnn and two of her friends, who would be visiting Pigeon Forge along with them.

Sir Pigglesworth's Adventures in Pigeon Forge follows the exuberant piglet as he takes in the local sights, sounds, and rides while waiting to perform in Dolly’s Stampede. As usual, his friend JoAnn is there right alongside him as he dives into a banana split, plummets to earth at 77 mph on the Dropline Ride and rolls down a hill in a bubble -- and those are just some of the fun things he gets to do. I’m a big fan of Sir Pigglesworth and his ever-patient sidekick, JoAnn. His adventures are fun, educational and informative introductions to the travel/adventure genre for children. Darchicourt’s illustrations are masterful and hilarious all at once. I particularly enjoy seeing the facial expressions he gives Sir Pigglesworth and the other characters as well as experiencing the places visited through his artwork. While an exciting book for story-time, this tale is especially useful for getting kids ready for a trip to Pigeon Forge. It’s also a good primer for kids to try on their own. Sir Pigglesworth's Adventures in Pigeon Forge is most highly recommended.

Sir Pigglesworth's Adventures in Pigeon Forge, written by JoAnn Wagner, is book eight in the Sir Pigglesworth Adventure series. Sir Pigglesworth, son of the Duke and Duchess of Pigglesworth, is a young pig who seems to get into trouble wherever he goes. He is so full of enthusiasm that when he gets an invitation to Pigeon Forge and to participate in Dolly Parton’s Stampede, he rushes to tell his parents and ends up dumping gravy on the Duke’s head. Sir Pigglesworth goes to Pigeon Forge and takes in all the sights, including the forest where he meets Wes-T Bear. Wes-T tells Sir Pigglesworth that only he can prevent forest fires, and so Sir Pigglesworth makes it his mission to put out every fire he sees… He goes out to eat and ends up with his head in a gigantic banana split, he rides the bumper cars, and he “helps” at the pool. Oblivious to the chaos he leaves in his wake, Sir Pigglesworth always has a grand time.

Sir Pigglesworth's Adventures in Pigeon Forge contains wonderful full-color illustrations by David Darchicourt on every two-page spread. The chapters are short and mostly self-contained so young readers just ready for chapter books could read a chapter at a time, or each chapter could be read aloud as a bedtime story. Sir Pigglesworth's Adventure books are recommended for children ages 6-10, but I see this book as most appealing to children in Pre-K through grade 2. The book moves along at a quick pace and JoAnn Wagner has loaded the story with references to real places and events. Sir Pigglesworth's Adventures in Pigeon is cute, it’s funny and it’s very entertaining.

Sir Pigglesworth’s Adventures In Pigeon Forge (Book 8) is written by JoAnn Wagner and illustrated by David Darchicourt in honor and remembrance of the traumatic events and aftermath of the fire of November 2016 in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Sir Pigglesworth and his friends go to Pigeon Forge where the fun-loving little pig meets Wes-T Bear, who informs him about the dangers of forest fires. As Sir Pigglesworth tries to figure out how he is supposed to take Wes-T Bear’s place after he retires, he spends time with his friends at Dollywood, riding as many rides as he can and eating at the famous diners. Can Sir Pigglesworth figure out how to help Wes-T Bear prevent forest fires or was there a deeper meaning to what the bear had to say?

Sir Pigglesworth’s Adventures In Pigeon Forge by JoAnn Wagner is an adorable story that anyone could enjoy reading. The plot is entertaining as Sir Pigglesworth’s excitement causes him to do the right things in the wrong ways, inadvertently causing a bit of mischief. The characters are entertaining with their unique personalities. The illustrations by David Darchicourt are bright, beautiful and colorful as they flawlessly tell the story through pictures just as vividly as Wagner’s storytelling. I love how Wagner used some of the most amazing attractions in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg and the excitement involved in visiting the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains.

I have to admit reading this story made me a little homesick for the places where I used to play in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge when I was a teen, which in turn makes me want to read the other seven books in the Sir Pigglesworth Adventures series. I recommend Sir Pigglesworth’s Adventures In Pigeon Forge to anyone who loves an exciting tale full of comical actions and reactions. I can’t wait to see what other adventures Wagner and Darchicourt have in store for Sir Pigglesworth.
