Slip of a Girl is the third book in Linda S. Browning's A Parlor Game Mystery series. It is a captivating tale about Olivia Honeycutt, a girl with the gift of communicating with the dead. The story begins with Olivia sitting in her Nashville townhouse, savoring her breakfast and pondering life. She reflects on the past, including her relationship with Detective Presley Warren and her current career as an investigative journalist. The novel takes an intriguing turn when Olivia receives a referral from retired Detective Alfred Thomas, who is seeking her help in resolving the cold case of Jessica Roeser, a 15-year-old girl who died in 1966 at the Eastern State Mental Hospital. Olivia is drawn to the case, and with the help of Presley, she begins to investigate the circumstances surrounding Jessica's death. But nothing is as it seems, and something is preventing the victim's ghost from connecting with Olivia. Can she break through and solve the mystery?

Slip of a Girl by Linda S. Browning is narrated in the first-person, and immediately pulls readers into Olivia’s world. The elements of mystery, suspense, and the supernatural punctuate the plot. Olivia's ability to communicate with the dead augments the intrigue and the suspense builds as she digs into Jessica’s death. The writing is excellent, and the use of well-crafted dialogues and the epistolary style complement the descriptive prose. The relationships are superbly drawn and nuanced, from Olivia’s connection with the dead to her relationship with Presley. This well-paced novel can be read as a standalone; it presents multidimensional characters and a conflict that will capture the hearts of readers who enjoy sleuth narratives with compelling twists.
