Idle hands are the devil's workshop. This age-old adage is perfectly encapsulated in this humorous short story by Amanda Gockel. Slow Joe is a delightful picture book that follows the laziest man on Earth, Joe. There is nothing in this world that makes Joe move quicker than he wants to. He is just so slow. As a young boy, it used to take him over 100 years to go to bed. He ended up taking a nap on the way to the bed. It took Joe another 100 years to move to the kitchen for a glass of water and then another 100 years to go to the bathroom. When he finally saw himself in the mirror, Joe realized he had become an old man of 307. He wondered where all this time went.

Sometimes, time has a habit of running out when we least expect it to. Author Amanda Gockel incorporates this valuable lesson in a funny short story about the slowest man on Earth. The narrative is concise and immensely entertaining. Young readers are bound to enjoy this tale. In addition, they will learn about making each moment count. Parents will love reading Slow Joe to their toddlers and preschool kids. Although there is only a single character in the story, Joe is so unintentionally funny that you can't help but love him. These kinds of stories not only entertain but also impart some core values to children at a very impressionable point in their lives. It got a few chuckles out of me because I know some people like Joe in my own life. Recommended for young children!
