Snatching St. Nick by Myla Taylor is a fast-paced redemption story about Cooper, who is always in trouble, and always thinking of more ways to get himself into trouble. This time he really does it: he makes a bet with his arch-enemy Dax, that he can get the hottest Christmas toy by December 25, and from the Big Man himself; St. Nick. If he loses his bet, his scholastic and social life will take a real downward spiral. Peony, his one and only friend, tries to keep him out of trouble, but everything snowballs, bringing a disgruntled nephew of Santa along for a wild ride. We learn more about Cooper and why he does what he does, going back to when his mother dies and his father withdraws into himself, letting no one else in, including his son.

I listened to the audio version of this story. Narrator Michael Gallagher was awesome with all the voices, the inflections, the pauses - everything. I found his voice entertaining and funny, as well as engaging. The story plus the narration made me want to continue in the adventure and not stop. I liked the way that Santa is different in this story, and though he still has to look a certain way, he’s changed his lifestyle to someone who’s into fitness, giving young readers a better example than the old, unhealthy Santa Claus. The story provides several lessons for old and young alike, as well as an imaginative adventure that is sure to be a favorite holiday tale. I can easily envision this on the big screen—it is that good. Snatching St. Nick by Myla Taylor is highly recommended.
