Son of Anger by RJD Ferguson is a compelling start to the Alfarbani Series, a novel with a strong appeal for fans of epic fantasy. Just after his eighteenth birthday and at a time when he is ready to receive the heritage reserved for him, Al is betrayed by a friend and becomes the greatest foe of his homeland, banished for a crime he never committed. With a merciless and evil order out to get him, he has to overcome innumerable challenges and obstacles. But an ultimate encounter with a hideous creature will change his outlook on life and his world and open his eyes to the fact that he is the key to stopping a powerful evil from ensnaring his people. Does he have the courage and the strength to face the darkness?

This is a story with many layers and readers will enjoy following “the stone rejected by the builders,” which might turn out to be the cornerstone of their survival. Al starts off like an ordinary young man, but as he journeys away from what has hitherto been his homeland, he begins to uncover the truth about his strengths. He discovers his destiny by forging on, and after every challenge his confidence grows as well. The setting is captured in vivid and beautiful detail, allowing for clear visuals in the reader’s mind. This book will entice readers who enjoy stories about the proverbial theme of conflict between good and evil, and it is interesting that justice could depend on an unsuspecting young man. The conflict is well developed and the pacing measured to keep the reader’s attention through every page of the narrative. RJD Ferguson’s Son of Anger is a story with a powerful premise, a strong conflict, and fascinating characters.
