Sonar: The Crashing by B. Truly is a high-stakes science fiction audiobook that unravels the tangled threads of fate, memory, and destiny. We’re with Harmony, who is plagued by haunting dreams that blur the line between déjà vu and buried truth. When she discovers that her entire life is a constructed illusion, she faces a reality that’s far more complex and dangerous than she imagined. Meanwhile, Paige struggles to rekindle a love that has been wiped from existence, and Jason, whose memory was stolen, tries to piece together his identity as events begin to surface. When a mysterious girl enters Jason’s life, his sense of recognition triggers a cascade of revelations. As timelines converge and past lives threaten the present, Jason must make a choice that could alter not only his future but that of everyone around him.
Author B. Truly has a sense of timing that keeps you hooked, pacing the plot with twists at just the right moment for a gripping blend of mystery, romance, and sci-fi that keeps listeners hooked. There are certainly plenty of those twists, but nothing ever feels gimmicky as the details of the plot are well considered for everything to make sense. Truly has a knack for psychology and cutting to the deep details of a character in precise ways, and this makes for an exploration of memory loss and destiny that's both thrilling and thought-provoking, and it certainly had me thinking long after I finished listening.
In terms of audiobook production, listening to the story brought new levels of pleasure in a clean, professional style. There’s warmth and enthusiasm in the lively narration by Des M. Astor and Scott Calhoun, and their rich vocal ranges added depth and emotional resonance to an already layered plot. There’s a lot of distinction in the delivery, too, which helped to balance the multiple character arcs while building a compelling sci-fi mythology. Overall, I really enjoyed Sonar: The Crashing and would recommend it in audiobook format for an even more enjoyable sci-fi experience.
