Sophir Takes a Walk by Rasha Kawar introduces a cheerful young beagle named Sophir who lives with Haley in Copper Village. One morning, Sophir wakes to the smell of bacon and begins her day with Haley, who is preparing for her first day at a new school. After breakfast, they walk through the woods so Haley can see the school before classes start. Along the way, Sophir hears a faint cry for help that Haley cannot hear. Trusting her strong nose and ears, Sophir leads Haley into the forest and finds a tiny kitten named Eli trapped in a deep hole. With Haley’s help, Sophir digs around the hole so Eli can climb out. Soon, Wes arrives, grateful for their assistance. The children become friends, and the adventure turns into a walk to the playground near Copper Elementary.

One of the first things readers will notice is the font and the black-and-white illustrations, reminiscent of classic young reader chapter books. Rasha Kawar writes in a warm and inviting style, highlighting the beagle as she experiences the world through sound, scent, and feeling. The pacing moves steadily as the morning unfolds from breakfast to the forest adventure and finally to the playground near the school. Dialogue keeps the story lively while also showing the caring bond between people and their pets. Tender moments between Sophir and the kitten Eli highlight themes of friendship, bravery, and helping others in need. The illustrations by Hanif Roihan add charm and help guide early readers through each scene as the adventure develops. Readers who enjoy stories about animals, friendship, and small adventures in everyday settings will find much to enjoy in Sophir Takes a Walk. It's an excellent book for classroom reading.
