Heidi Levan has written inspiring, short and quick to read thoughts that cover the four seasons in "Soul Songs: Reflections of Joy in Everyday Life". She begins with summer and her first reflection is on puff balls and how her daughter brought her one that had wilted, noting that if it was put into water, it would become a sunshine. Covering autumn, she writes of gratitude for being able to breathe, of being grateful for simple things like "Hot, Sweet Coffee" on page 81. In thinking of winter as a season, the author tells on page 141 of having "the gift of sitting quietly, alone, with a blanket around my feet and a contented cat on my lap." And in considering spring, she writes on page 243 in "Lifeline" of being "in deep awe of those who overcome staggering odds to find a peaceful place in living beyond the moment when life fell out beneath them." Heidi Levan looks at the world around her and reflects on simple things such as the price of eggs or the delight in eating brown sugar sandwiches. Then she shares her thoughts magically with the reader.
"Soul Songs" is one of those special books that readers can keep on a table beside their favorite chair so that they can refer to its short reflections anytime of day or night. Each reflection is only a page or two long and begins with a look at nature and then how that applies in everyday life. Author Heidi Levan's book is easy to read and will appeal to a wide range of readers who need something at hand to read and enjoy in quiet moments. "Soul Songs" is for the reader who looks inwardly and thinks deeply.
