Spinning Monkey and the Missing Eggs by Devapreya Selvaraj is a picture book that blends mystery, teamwork, and problem-solving for young readers. The story opens with seven Rainbow Frogs sitting on their lily pads, each watching over their seven eggs alongside friends Stork, Bunny, Duck, and Turtle. But when a storm washes away most of their eggs, their peaceful world is turned upside down. But soon after they manage to get their eggs back, a thief begins stealing them one by one! Each night, a different animal friend stands guard, with the aid of clever tools from Spinning Monkey’s treasure box. But the thief continues to outsmart them. At last, Spinning Monkey uses his trusty camera to capture snapshots that reveal the culprit. But will they be able to stop the culprit before their last egg is taken?
What makes Devapreya Selvaraj’s story worth reading is that it is adventurous and engaging. The storytelling encourages young readers through problem-solving and teamwork. It teaches critical thinking skills while sparking children’s curiosity through mystery and repetition. The bright, animated illustrations by Ksenia Markevych bring the pond and the animals to life, capturing both action and emotion from page to page.
