Start Again, Start Again Series, #1 is a contemporary romance novel written by J. Saman. Kate had expected her husband, Eric, and two-year-old daughter, Maggie, to come by the hospital while she was at work. There would be ice cream and another chance to snuggle with her little girl. When she heard that there was an important issue requiring her attention in ED, the ICU nurse figured at first that it was just their visit, but as she approached emergency, fear gripped her insides and she broke into a run. Maggie was lying on a gurney, surrounded by medical staff working feverishly to keep her alive, but the damage done by the car crash was too severe. Kate had one last chance to hug her dying daughter and say goodbye. Eric never even made it to the hospital. He had been there for her since they first met when they were 10 years old. A part of her was tempted to end it and join them wherever they were, but she kept on promising herself to stay alive one more day. Two years later, she was still alive and looking for a new location to call home. It would be an adventure and a fresh beginning.
J. Saman's contemporary romance novel, Start Again, Start Again Series, #1, tackles the serious subject of survivor’s guilt as the twenty-something Kate tries to resist falling in love with her sexy traveling companion. She feels bound to the memory of her deceased husband and the life they had shared. Saman takes her characters and the reader on a grand road trip through the United States, making stops in Charleston, Miami, New Orleans and San Francisco, as the two cross the country with Seattle their final destination. I was thinking as I read that any relationship that can survive an extended road trip has to be something special indeed, and found myself hoping that that would be a happy ending to the tale. Saman's would-be lovers keep the story going brilliantly. Kate's love of shots and colorful language makes her particularly intriguing, and Ryan's mysterious background and bad-boy past make him an excellent counterpart for her. Start Again, Start Again Series, #1 is highly recommended.
