Stem Cell Battles - Proposition 71 and Beyond: How Ordinary People Can Fight Back Against the Crushing Burden of Chronic Disease by Don C Reed is a moving account of the journey that brought the California Stem Cell Agency (CIRM) into existence through the tireless efforts of passionate individuals, and the ray of hope these efforts give to the victims of chronic diseases in America and all over the world. Stem Cell Battles gives the layman a deep insight into stem cell research, its central role in the fight against chronic diseases, and the challenges the research faces. You do not have to be a medical expert or a scientist of any form to enjoy and benefit from this book. The book is written for ordinary folks to understand. The battle against chronic diseases is a tough one, but not one that is lost and, through such efforts like Proposition 71, we are moving in the right direction.

Stem cell research is geared towards fighting the most deadly of diseases that we face today including Alzheimer’s, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, stroke, Parkinson’s and many more. With each new step reached on this journey, there is more hope for mankind. Stem Cell Battles: Proposition 71 and Beyond by Don C Reed is a truly worthy read for everybody interested in appreciating stem cell research and the promise it holds in the fight against these deadly diseases. The book does not downplay the challenges that are still ahead in this fight or give false hope. It is, however, a reminder and an assuring ray of hope that the battle has not been lost. It is a deeply insightful and engaging read that is very relevant, especially in current times when the fight against chronic diseases is more urgent than ever before.

Stem Cell Battles: Proposition 71 and Beyond: How Ordinary People Can Fight Back Against the Crushing Burden of Chronic Disease by Don C Reed is a non-fiction book that reads like a personal story to the individual reader. Its inspirational stories give support and strength to those suffering from disease. It touches on the politics surrounding medical research and how individuals can influence those politics. It also highlights many of the accomplishments science has already experienced and talks about what more could come with the support of additional readers. The author is well versed and knowledgeable in this arena with extensive background in this field of expertise, but the book is written in a down to earth way that makes it feel as if he wrote it for you, the reader, individually. Take a moment to delve into a story crafted specifically for you, one that will educate you, inspire you, enrage you, and encourage you to learn more and do more about this and other areas where science, religion, and politics conflict.

This is a very educational book on a subject the author is passionate about. Regardless of your current knowledge about stem cell research or the battle that is ongoing regarding this research, this book will educate you and make you aware of what is going happening in the world around you, without talking down to you. The author speaks as if you and he are equals, making the book a very smooth read that is informative, affirming, and inspirational. A great read!

In an easy to read yet highly detailed look into the world of stem cell research, Stem Cell Battles: Proposition 71 - How Ordinary People Can Fight Back Against the Crushing Burden of Chronic Disease by author Don C. Reed, readers will get a true insider's look into the dynamics of funding a political hot button. Detailing many of the important battles surrounding embryonic stem cell research, this book will take readers from the very beginning of the fight in California through current times, and will explain many of the myriad benefits to this cutting edge research. Providing hope to those that suffer from diseases and conditions that could be much helped by this invaluable research, and valid arguments from those who oppose this research for religious or political reasons, Stem Cell Battles is definitely a worthwhile read.

I very much enjoyed reading author Don C. Reed's great recounting of this social, political, and above all health-related issue. His insider's knowledge comes through very clearly, and is very useful in the telling of this story. Christopher Reeve's posthumous foreword is both poignant and a compelling argument in favor of the continued use and expansion of stem cell research. Any reader or their families or loved ones living with a chronic illness or a disability caused by injury should absolutely read Stem Cell Battles: Proposition 71 - How Ordinary People Can Fight Back Against the Crushing Burden of Chronic Disease. I highly recommend this book and certainly hope that author Don C. Reed continues with his battle in this worthwhile endeavor.
