Stocks for Women: A Beginner’s Guide to Building Wealth and Achieving Financial Independence by Liliya Rose Strong presents an outstanding argument for women seeking financial freedom through investment and detailed and practical advice on achieving such freedom. With the combination of her personal experiences, relevant statistics, and comparative data charts, Strong offers helpful advice for women who are beginners in investment strategies such as Roth IRAs, as well as more advanced methods for those readers who are willing to pursue riskier methods such as individual stocks to build wealth. Through her honest assessment of what prevents women from investing, her relatable sense of humor, and her understandable explanations of tactical investments, the author makes it clear that women can invest as wisely and as successfully as men.
What I liked the most about Stocks for Women was the empathetic tone achieved by Liliya Rose Strong. She realizes how tentative many women are with financial decisions and presents historical factors that explain why we avoid investment: we are simply not taught how to handle money. Instead, we allow men to shoulder that responsibility. I also appreciated Strong’s degree of professionalism in the writing of this book. She collaborated with Grace Waite, knowing that as a non-native speaker, she might not have the proficiency in the English language necessary to write Stocks for Women without an editor’s help. I also was impressed by what she did not do. Strong never tries to sell the reader anything more than her considerable expertise in investment strategy – a welcome change from the hard-sell tactics of so many self-help books that I have read. I highly recommend this book to women who want to pursue independence through investment.
