Storyteller's Market by Om Soni introduces us to Hari and his wife, Maya. Hari was a good-hearted man who had to leave his family at home in Peshawar during the 1947 partition of India and Pakistan. He settled in the quaint Himalayan town of Rampur on the banks of the Satlej River and married Maya, who gave birth to their five daughters. Maya, desperate to give birth to a son and realize the dream of Hari’s long-lost uncle, falls into depression and loses interest in life after giving birth to their son, Josh. As Josh grows up, he tackles his tumultuous childhood in the shadows of a mentally ill mother and a cancer diagnosis, plagued by visions of Yama, the god of death and justice. Hari fears for his son's well-being, haunted by the curse that has affected his previous generations.
