Author Biography

Zeecé Lugo was born in Puerto Rico, grew up in Brooklyn, and lived in many places. She spent seven years in the U.S. Air force, taught for many years in Miami, and even spent a year working for the IRS.

Her early love was reading. The worlds of Pern, Middle-earth, St. Mary Mead, and Shrewsbury Abbey had an incredible influence and hold on her imagination.
She wrote her first novel, Daniel’s Fork, in two months, spending long hours at her task. During that time, she ensconced herself in her bedroom with her computer, barely coming out to grab a cup of coffee or a snack. One day, her nearest neighbor came desperately knocking at her bedroom window, afraid that Zeecé might be dead; no one had seen her for days!

Daniel’s Fork was meant to be the first book in a romantic trilogy. Little did Zeecé know that stories have a way of going where they want to go. Daniel’s Fork turned out to be a journey to the future past! It is a sexy mystery set in the future, giving birth to a fictional universe: the Daniel’s Fork universe.

Having read, reviewed, and loved The Edge of the World, I immediately followed it with Daniel's Fork: A Mystery set in the Daniel's Fork Universe. The story, the characters, and the talent of author Zeecé Lugo ensured that I would continue to immerse myself in this fabulously inventive series as soon as the next book arrived. That third book, Strongheart’s Woman, supplements a set of stories that are all part and parcel of a fantasy tale set in a future past. The saga of Daniel’s Fork is described, at least partially, as a dystopian story. The saga is certainly set in a future following an apocalyptic event — in this case a pandemic — but it is far from ‘a society characterized by human misery, as squalor, oppression, disease, and overcrowding.’ Instead, the future world has gone back to an American future where the great Choctaw and Creek Indian tribes have reestablished timeless traditions, and the ‘white’ man has reverted to a feudal system of government, reminiscent of the Middle Ages in Europe. This future world is anything but dystopian. The story combines fantasy, romance, and suspense genres with a sprinkling of alternative history to thoroughly delight all readers who enjoy any of these genres.

The story is epic in scope and, in the hands of its creator, could easily become the next Game of Thrones or Outlander series in print and film. As much as I love the story, I must also add that to write a tale of this scope requires an accomplished and talented author. Ms. Lugo is with a doubt capable of accomplishing this feat and much more. She writes with confidence and skill, weaving a wonderful love story into a fantasy world that contains more verisimilitude than many novels set in the real world. Her characters literally leap from the pages through dialogue, thoughts and actions. Although the Daniel’s Fork saga is a series, each individual book stands on its own. As in real life, the times and places remain stable, while the characters come and go but are always connected to each other. The author has a firm grasp of historical societies that she blends into this new world with a deft hand. Strongheart’s Woman is a tale you’ll not want to miss. After your first glimpse of Daniel’s Fork, whether the prelude story or any of the three novels, I am confident you’ll want more. I do, and A Time For Love is already on my Kindle.

A stunning prequel to the world of Daniel's Fork. Lord Strongheart is set to marry the Choctaw princess, under an agreement made by their ancestors to keep the peace in the world left after the "Great Death." Annasai is a vibrant woman, playful and eager to please. There is only one thing holding Lord Strongheart back, and that's her cousin, Setiyah, a healer, and very headstrong woman. Will Lord Strongheart be able to do the right thing, or will his heart lead him down a path of destruction?

Miss Lugo certainly does not disappoint in this beautifully written tale of love and lust. Although set in a world after humanity has all but been wiped out, she does not resort to the typical dystopian themes, but reverts back to a time of lords, warriors, and tribal cultures. I cannot fault this novel in any way, and I am left wanting more from the world of Daniel's Fork!

I love this Daniel’s Fork series and will definitely read more of them. I love how even though it’s a post-apocalyptic world, the world has reverted back to what it was around the 1800s with shades of the future and more recent times. It’s really clever and written in a way that’s engaging. The author has a way of writing that has an almost Austen flavour in her diction but it works. I would definitely recommend this series.

This post apocalyptic romance is not the normal book that I would have picked up. The synopsis intrigued me, and the cover was also something that caught my eye. Upon opening Strongheart's Woman I was rather shocked at what I found.

Annasai his everything a man could want. When she is brought to Victor to honor the "accord" - a written agreement between tribes - he falls in love with her. Unknowing to him though, the woman hiding behind her gauzy outfit is not who he thinks it to be. Somehow, the cousins pull off a rather epic cover-up, and Victor Strongheart has fallen in love with the wrong woman. Does the accord still stand? Does Victor somehow get his promised bride, and fall in love with her?

Victor Strongheart does not expect to fall for the woman that is opinionated, cunning, scheming, and tricky. In fact, when he is talking with the Chief Soaring Eagle, they discuss how some weak, spineless sod who craves guidance will ask for her hand in marriage. Eventually. As Setiyah sits through this treacherous talk, she can do nothing but merely sigh, and wish that she was not the one stuck between the men, and taking part in the meeting for her cousin.

You have to pick up this book to find out what really happens in the end!!

Zeece did a wonderful job bringing a post apocalyptic romance to life. This book focuses a lot on how the past was, and brings it to the future after all things technological have failed society. I loved the extremely unique names. Nothing followed any other story line/plot that I have read in years, and it was rather refreshing to have a futuristic past novel that worked for the readers

I was introduced to the lovely, spicy, witchy woman, Setiyah, in the first novel of this wonderful world, Daniel's Fork. In that tale, she was an older woman and the widow of Lord Victor Strongheart. This book tells the story of a younger Setiyah and Lord Victor, how they met and the obstacles they each overcame to realize their true love. I love Setiyah's character. She's head-strong, independent, saucy and loyal to her core. But she can also be soft and vulnerable.

By the established Accords, the only way Victor Strongheart can become the Lord of Daniel's Fork, he must wed the Choctaw Chieftain's daughter, Princess Annasai. Yes, she's everything a hot-blooded man could want, beautiful, sexy and passionate. But, she's also willful, spoiled and selfish. She has a hard time relating to the needs of her people and their misfortunes. As Victor becomes closer with Annasai, he realizes she's not the one that has claimed his heart and the best woman to serve the people of Daniel's Fork.

I really love the concept of Daniel's Fork, and could see myself living in this type of world. I hate our modern existence and what we, as humans, have lost to the God of progress and technology.l I also think that Zeece Lugo outdid herself with this book. It's more alive with drama and emotions than the first one. The story is gripping and fast-paced, and I couldn't wait to get to the conclusion. The story is well-written and the characters each have their own voice. I loved this story and can't wait to read more from this extremely, talented author. I highly recommend this tale and give it my 5 feathers. Good job.

In a post pandemic world, where people have lost access to technology and are living simple, tribal lives, this story unfolds. To cement a political alliance, Victor Strongheart is to marry the daughter of another tribe. She is beautiful, desirable; everything a man could want. At first, he is delighted, but then he finds himself falling for someone else. Will she return his love, or will it all end in tragedy?

The author has created a world where most of the characters have a deep sense of morality, and are conflicted between doing the ‘right thing’ or following the dictates of their hearts. I got a sense of nobility and pride in nearly all the characters. It’s a very easy story to read. There are of course some sexy interludes, well described, but this is primarily a love story that’s played out more in the mind and emotions than the bedroom. Star crossed love traditionally has a tragic element, but when it comes it doesn’t quite take the form you thought it would.

You could actually describe this as the thinking woman’s Romance novel. With erotic overtones. And it is no less a novel as a consequence. There was an element of traditional story telling about it for me, too, the x-rated version of course.

In a post-apocalyptic world people have either given up and fallen back into groups of rampaging thugs or struggled to form pockets of civilization—safe havens—for those who would see their lives back on firm ground.

Victor Strongheart has fought the roving bands living as little more than packs of dogs, earning himself a place of leadership among the people who would see the world righted after the devastation wrought. Part of that task involves uniting several groups into one strong alliance, one that will be forged by a marriage to a princess of the Choctaw nation.

His bride-to-be is the beautiful Annasai, but it is her cousin, Setiyah, that Victor can’t get out of his mind.

This is a traditional love story. Well-crafted, it takes us on the journey of two loves that will not be denied. We see the healer, Setiyah, in her younger years before coming to Daniel’s Fork and meeting the handsome Will Evers. I’m more anxious for that story to continue than ever.

I had a hard time putting this book down. The characters were very engaging, especially Setiyah. I also found the post-pandemic setting to be very interesting. I have already read Edge of the World and am very much looking forward to reading Daniel's Fork and anything else that comes along in this series.

A perfect post-apocalyptic romance.
I am so glad that Ms Lugo wrote this book. I read and reviewed Daniel's Fork a while back, giving it a solid five stars. If I could, I'd give this book more.
Strongheart's Woman is a prequel to Daniel's Fork, and I was fascinated by how well the stories are intertwined. You find out the history behind how Setiyah the healer comes to live in a town, far away from the idyllic village she grew up in; and it is idyllic.
The world Ms Lugo paints is incredibly believable. Set decades after a global pandemic has wiped out most of the worlds population, the universe we enter is one that's reverted to simpler times. It's a blend of Wild West, Native American and Medieval England. There are tribal leaders, feudal lords, and local Barons(called Commanders in this world).
While the villages and settlements are peaceful, as the story unfolds, it's clear the lands outside are a dangerous wilderness. So be prepared for scenes of a graphic nature. And talking of graphic, the sex scenes are among the best I've ever read.
What results is an amazing love story, one of the best I've read in recent years. There are other books in this universe, and I will be reading them as soon as I can.

Description from the back of the book, it differs from what is offered online:

It is the middle of the 22nd century, and North America is once again a verdant paradise where giant herds of bison roam freely, and wild mustangs run wild in the plains. The once powerful megacities lie crumbling under their own weight, stark ruins slowly being swallowed by the encroaching vegetation.

In this world, the survivors of the pandemic that swept over the planet decades earlier are flourishing. Man has embraced an almost feudal way of life. Children swim in the rivers, lovers watch the stars, people till the fields, and lords rule the lands.

Lord Victor Strongheart to Choctaw land to meet the young lady who, by written accord, is destined to be his bride. Annasai, the chief's daughter, is everything a man could want, and Strongheart couldn't be happier. Her cousin, Setiyah, is all nettles and strings; the lord is glad not to be marrying her. But when Setiyah dances in the moonlight, Lord Strongheart, his beautiful bride at his side, watches as one bewitched. He knows the heart is a treacherous thing, and his has just betrayed him!

My Thoughts:

Wow! Zeecé Lugo can make a story come alive. I have never encountered a author more talented at making her words seem like lyrics from a beautiful song. I am amazed at how well this book turned out to be.

This is set in the future where the world has drastically changed from what we know it to be today. It seems more like the past, and this story reminded me of a historical bodice ripper, and boy did I want to be right in the story and have my bodice ripped. I really did not think this story was going to be able to work, but amazingly it did.

This is meant for adults. The sex is steamy, no, let me correct that, wholly s*** this had some scorching, TAKE ME NOW sex!

The characters are great and I fell in love with each and every one of them, especially Setiyah. She is very independent and headstrong, and has no intentions of ever saying a nice word in Lord Stongheart's favor. Boy do her feelings change.

I am very curious to see how the rest of the books about Daniel's Fork stand in comparison to this one.

I recommend this to fans of romance with adult situations and descriptive sexual relations.
