In Sunny Rock Harbor, Devon, a rock star who desperately needs a hit album, leaves city life behind for the picturesque landscape of Sunny Rock Harbor, hoping that a new place will shake him out of his funk and inspire him to write a hit album. And then there’s Paige, a shop owner looking to leave her old relationship where it belongs: in the past. When they meet, it’s not exactly a meet-cute or sizzling with chemistry because she has no idea who he is. It’s awkward and disappointing, but author Melina Druga does a good job of showing us just how much these two have in common, namely that they both want to connect with someone. It is that underlying need that draws them together and gives them the connection they both long for.
Melina Druga’s story of a grumpy, conflicted rock star and an upbeat, if battered, shop owner, is engaging and entertaining. Devon and Paige are a great match despite being so different. I love the way their connection unfolds against the backdrop of stargazing and beach dates, taking full advantage of the beautiful area that’s been so healing for both of them. Sunny Rock Harbor isn’t free of drama, though, because Paige’s ex shows up and the whole town pressures her to reconcile, which she firmly does not want. It’s a necessary conflict that forces both Devon and Paige to confront what they want from their relationship. Is it just a summer fling, or can it last once the weather changes?
