Sweet Playdate Club by Luz Dang is a lovely children's picture book that features sweet food and friendship. One day, while sitting under an oak tree, Sky and Dani share each other's desserts. Sky has Mantecaditos, Puerto Rican shortbread thumbprint cookies. Dani has a Paleta de Coco, a popsicle-looking dessert from the Dominican Republic. After tasting the sweets, they decide to learn how to make these themselves. Sky and Dani plan to go to each other's house, first to make popsicles and then the cookies. After finishing preparing the desserts, they taste them, and both feel really pleased with the result. Thus, they decide to repeat the experience every weekend with their friends and call it the Sweet Playdate Club.

Sweet Playdate Club is a charming children's book that celebrates the beauty of cultural diversity in a wonderful, delicious way and shows children that even with different cultural backgrounds, they can do activities together and enjoy them. Hannah Wood's lovely illustrations invite kids to discover the joy of cooking. Sky and Dani's enthusiasm in making the desserts themselves will inspire little ones to cook and host their own Playdate Sweet Club. Luz Dang's engaging text encourages kids to create and connect with others through food, stay open to trying new things, and build essential life skills. Any parent looking for a book that celebrates teamwork, friendship, cultural diversity, learning from one another, and people coming together to share ethnic recipes will find this one a must-have. At the end of the book, there are two recipes: Paleta de Coco (Coconut Popsicles) and Mantecaditos (Thumbprint Cookies).
