In a wonderful and well-written story appropriate for readers from young adulthood to old age, author Deborah D. Ferguson has created Sweet Sixteen. Continuing the story of Sandy Evans, whom readers first met in Ferguson's debut novel Almost April, they will find the same lovely girl in our protagonist, Sandy Evans, but now she's fifteen years old. Excited that she will be starting her sophomore year of high school, but also for her sweet sixteen birthday, she's got a lot to look forward to. When her cousin Jimmie starts to see Nancy Anderson, twin to the angry Mark, Sandy's plans get much more complicated. Thrown together with Mark on occasions when the four young people go out together, Sandy can see that there will be problems between Nancy's difficult brother and Jimmie, and she's determined to stand on the side of her cousin, no matter what.
Author Deborah D. Ferguson has written a simply delightful tale filled with characters that her readers will completely care about. Written in such a way that readers will want to read it from start to finish, Sweet Sixteen has a strong vein of Christianity, faith and belief running through it. This book may be a refreshing change for young adult readers who are looking for something different from the endless parade of werewolf, vampire or dystopian tales that seem to be pushed on them right now. I highly recommend this book to any reader who loves a sweet story, especially those who love a book with a Christian message. I am very much looking forward to the next book by author Deborah D. Ferguson, and I certainly hope that she's hard at work on it right now!
