In our fast-paced, very busy lives, we often need a boost of something sweet, savory or just tasty to get us through to the next meal. Busy families, running around to one activity or another, might think of grabbing a bag of chips, or a prepared food snack that may have a ‘healthy, nutritional, high in fiber’ label on it. But, with the growing statistics of obesity, not just in children, but with people in all age groups, are these packaged ‘healthy’ snacks really what they say they are?
What we need to do in our own lives with our own families is get back to the basics, and prepare meals and snacks from scratch. It’s not so hard to do and you don’t have to glue yourself to the kitchen to accomplish the task. In fact, with a young family, it’s easy enough to make it into a family project, a task that might even inspire the fussiest eater into trying something new, something really healthy. It’s really just a matter of getting into a routine and not settling for the easier, far less healthy option of prepared foods and snacks.
So where do we start? Jackie Zarkower, mother and author, has prepared just the book to help you return to the basics of healthy eating made easy. Her book, Switch It Up! Learn to Make Your Family’s Favorite Snacks Healthier, is not only a useful guide to healthier eating, but it carefully and in great detail leads you along to a better way of eating. Complete with advice, guidance, useful tips and lots of yummy (and of course healthy) recipes, this is a must-have book for every family.
