Tails Through Time: A Feline Odyssey by T.J. Hayes is a charming, magical, and stunning journey into history and space. Embark on an epic adventure with an adorable cat named Whiskers as he discovers a portal in the garden that takes him back in time and even into space. One amazing adventure after another takes Whiskers throughout time from Greek gods to Vikings, from Eygpt to medieval times. He’ll befriend pirates and even have cowboy fun in the Wild West. Then before the excitement runs out, take off into space when Whiskers becomes a spacefaring kitty and gets the opportunity to explore what is truly out there.
The premise is delightful and unique, telling a story of time and space through the perspective of an adorable cat. This is a concept that children are bound to enjoy and makes a great read for all ages as well as a charming bedtime story. The story has a fast pace, creating a chain of events full of adventure, discovery, and wonder. T.J. Hayes uses a cute rhyme scheme to bring the story to life while keeping the events that occur playful and upbeat. This tone pairs well with Whiskers’ adventures such as riding a stegosaurus, helping fierce Viking warriors, and searching for treasure alongside pirates. The idea of a cat doing all these things is part of the charm and makes this story feel original. The inspiration that this story sparks is to see the beauty and wonder in what's all around us. The illustrations provide an old-time feel, with unbelievably stunning images that have gentle details and perfectly capture the wonder of these adventures. Each illustration shows a snapshot of the places that Whiskers visits, which establishes a feeling of stepping into another world. Tails Through Time is highly recommended for its charm, beauty, wonder, magic, adventure, and of course, the adorable Whiskers.
