Tenuous Connections by Linda Jones is the story of Gwynna, a ghost. More than just a scary 'ghost in the house story,' the plot follows the different lives that Gwynna once had. She started in an orphan house run by nuns in the era of Henry VII and had many lives lasting into the 1990s. Each life was very different, and as she lived them, she had no memory of her past lives. As we spend time with Gwynna, we learn that she is trying to find a living person, who can see and hear her, to tell them the story of her many lives and have them write a book about it. When she returns to her first home at the orphanage many, many years later, she finds it to be a very different place. It is a gorgeous mansion and now appears to be a nursing home. Gwynna slips through the walls and comes across an angry young man, and much to her surprise, he can see and hear her. Christopher listens to her story with fascination and agrees to be her voice.
I enjoyed Tenuous Connections because it had a good storyline and an engaging pace that kept me reading. Author Linda Jones did an excellent job of creating characters that were all likable and each one played an essential part in the many lives of Gwynna. I am not a great fan of scary ghost stories, but the plot twists and ideas of Tenuous Connections felt natural and very possible as we shared in the story of each past life. The surprise ending made me smile and feel good for both Gwynna and Christopher. I highly recommend Tenuous Connections for all readers: a genuinely great read.
