Ternion of Tarr is a work of fiction in the fantasy, adventure, and action genres. It is suitable for teen and adult readers alike as it contains very mild use of strong language and fantasy violence. Part of the Simgra series, it was penned by author Bethany Arliss. The story follows Rill Narin, imprisoned unjustly for a crime she didn't commit, hiding the secret of her illegal magic as a Tangler. When she witnesses a demonic murder involving the Earl of Tarr's daughter, Rill forms an alliance with Constable Sabella Rivers and Lady Keeva Dalton to uncover the truth. As they delve into a whirlwind of danger and intrigue, they race against time to unmask a hellish murderer before the price of six souls in three nights is paid.
Author Bethany Arliss utilizes imagination and tension to craft a gripping and immersive read that kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. There’s a real flair for keeping readers guessing and introducing exciting new concepts, with vivid descriptions of magic, mystery, and suspense, in a richly developed world where danger lurks around every corner. The character of Rill is equally well-described, with her lethal secret and unwavering determination standing as a strong, heroic presence in the tale, yet it was the close narration of her deeper struggles and emotional challenges that drew me into the story the most. Arliss's skillful pacing created a sense of urgency that propelled the narrative forward, and this was accompanied by naturalistic dialogue that exposed the plot without the need for slow, chunky prose. Overall, Ternion of Tarr is a thrilling addition to the Simgra series, promising an exhilarating adventure for fans of fantasy and mystery alike.
