Nicolas puts on his badge, squirt gun, and handcuffs, and he goes to the garage. He pulls out his police bike and goes on his patrols. It is Saturday morning and Nicolas is dressed for another day as a kid cop. In the playground he sees an older boy picking on a smaller boy. He tells the older boy to stop bullying and leave the playground. Patrick, the smaller boy, thanks Nicolas. They both decide to play cops and robbers and they get on their bikes and begin patrolling the neighborhood in search of bad guys. They spot a small white puppy with no owner. Its collar has the name Tess and an address and a phone number. The lady in the house gives them two dollars each as a reward. Let's read the story to find out what happens next and how Nicolas, his brother Blake, and Patrick help the police and get certificates and honorary police badges.
The Adventures of Nicolas, the Kid Cop! by Daril and Christine Cinquanta is filled with action and adventure, addresses bullying and gives young readers details about being a police officer. The illustrations by Samantha Fistere are lively and colorful and give the story a good pace and movement. It will also help children realize the importance of reporting to the police if they see a crime or a robbery happening. This book is good for storytelling and read-aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries and gives children a peek into the lives of police officers in an entertaining way. They will want to experience what Nicolas, Blake, and Patrick did. The Adventures of Nicolas The Kid Cop! is a good book for parents and grandparents to gift youngsters this Christmas season and for other occasions because of all the adventure and action in it.
