The Alligator’s Red Shoes by Jim Munroe is about an alligator and its good fortune. A cat saw an alligator in the downtown shop wearing red shoes and wanted to learn the entire story. The alligator said it was taking a nap by the shore of a river when it heard a splash. On investigating the noise, the alligator saw a dad and his two daughters paddling on the water and having fun. Each girl also wore beautiful red shoes that caught the alligator’s attention, and it wanted them. The alligator dove into the river and caused a lot of splashing that shook the boat, then it came up and opened its mouth to scare them. The dad and his daughters threw all their belongings at the alligator, including their shoes. That was how the alligator got the red shoes. So, what did the alligator want at the shop?
The Alligator’s Red Shoes by Jim Munroe is a beautiful picture book that spikes the imagination. I recommend this book for children’s libraries, kindergarten classes, and even for home reading or bedtime stories. I loved the concise narration because it is appropriate for children between one and four years. Toddlers have a short attention span. The story is also funny enough to get a child invested. I loved the pictures by Samantha Bell because they were colorful, realistic, and explanatory. Children would be able to understand the story just by looking at the pictures. Munroe wrote using simple language that is easy to understand and encourages the child reader to expand their vocabulary. Overall, this is an excellent picture book for toddlers. Thank you. Jim, for a beautiful story.
