The Awakening by David Winston starts with a note that explains what readers will find in the book: "In this book, we will learn about the origins of the universe, what came before the origins of the universe, the meaning of life, what happens after we die, and much more." The book redefines who we are, allowing readers a new idea of their identity. The author makes a bold claim: "You see, you are the entire universe. In other words, you are God." Moving from this daring statement, he explores the hidden nature of the universe, speaks about the soul and its power, and focuses on the spiritual dimension of being. But this powerful being that is termed God is under serious attack and the author warns that we could become "the abused animals of the future."

The author speaks about existential themes, redefining our essence and looking deeply at things like life and death and their hidden meaning, our relationship with conscious life forms, and our responsibility over the universe. Here is a book that will change the way we look at life and the way we live. The message of this book unlocks our inner power and allows us to play our roles as custodians of the universe. The writing is filled with powerful thoughts and symbols. There are many insights and points to ponder on. For instance, I have been thinking about this statement on perfection: "You are perfect, everyone is perfect, and everything is perfect... In other words, everything is the way it’s destined to be." The Awakening is a book about consciousness, a spiritual journey that awakens us into who we are meant to be. David Winston makes his points with illustrations and compels the reader to reflect on the different realities of life.
