The Bathtub, written and illustrated by Tina Wijesiri, is an adorable children’s story about barnyard animals who love to bathe and play. With the pond too far away and too dangerous for them to bathe in and the fox always taking their soap, the animals decide to build their very own bathtub. Working together they get the tub finished, then make a somewhat unfair schedule for each animal to have their turn. While they are squabbling over the roster, the tub goes missing. With the animals confused and upset, what are they supposed to do now? Why was the schedule seemingly unfair? Who took the tub from the arguing animals and why? Will they ever get it back? Who could do something so sly?
I loved The Bathtub with its easy to understand plot that all kids can learn important lessons from. This fun tale takes the reader through an easy to follow story of doing things fairly and sharing. The barnyard animal characters are a lot of fun to read about as they work together to accomplish a task, then argue over easy to solve matters. The illustrations express the story through pictures in lovely colors that will catch any child’s attention. I love how Wijesiri designed this story around important concepts like humility, compassion, friendship and forgiveness in a way that kids can easily identify with. I recommend The Bathtub to anyone with children who love a fun tale about barnyard animals.
