The Beacon Thrones: Book Two of Dragon Calling by Naomi Eccles-Smith is the continuation of the adventure story of the last dragon in Valadae, Laeka’Draeon. Laeka’Draeon is on an adventure to find his missing kin. He is following the prophet Belzor Ven’Ho's prophecy, in the hopes of discovering the whereabouts of his family. Unfortunately, the prophecy is complex and confusing, so Laeka’Draeon travels with his friends to the Raegelian forest to seek the sage advice of the seer, the legendary Lady Megandel. In the forest, Laeka’Draeon learns that enemies have begun a dangerous plan of attack that is far more powerful than just stopping Laeka’Draeon's quest. Laeka’Draeon and his friends must do whatever they can to stop this growing force without sacrificing their mission...or their lives.
I enjoyed the action and suspense within this story and young readers will love the quick pace. It is exciting and keeps readers on their toes. There are a lot of great characters that readers will fall in love with besides just Leaka'Draeon. Readers will root for characters like Ferule and Ubi the Unicorn, Norf, Maikor, Meawren, Fargo the spirit, and Belzor. As the adventure becomes more and more desperate and the characters are faced with more and more danger, the reader beings to fall in love with the characters and the story that much more, hoping that they can survive, finish their quest, and save this new and magical world.
