The Creepshow by Adria J. Cimino had me from the start. I was instantly curious about this story, and how Wanda’s journey would play out. In a story set in Paris, our main character Wanda Julienne works in finance and is a star employee. Then, she gets pregnant. Once she comes back from maternity leave, she learns that her co-worker in charge of her accounts let them get into a terrible state, and she gets blamed for it. She also is being sexual harassed, and suddenly her workplace becomes a dreaded spot for her. In addition to her work troubles, there is the issue of her baby’s father returning and finding out that she hid the pregnancy from him. Wanda tries to juggle her work struggles, being a new single mom, and her relationship troubles without crashing and burning.

The main focus of this story for me was Wanda’s workplace issues. This is a very current topic in mainstream media at the moment, and it was interesting yet heart-breaking to read. As someone who has gone through something similar to Wanda, I felt such a kinship with her and was rooting for her to find justice. It was also fascinating to read about the other employees and the other females at Wanda’s work and how they chose to deal with the issues in the workplace – and there was a wide spectrum there. Of course, in addition to being a new mother, the complications with the baby’s father, and her friendship with her best friend were all fabulous extras to the story, but I was riveted by the workplace story line. I highly recommend reading The Creepshow, and give this a 5 star review.
