Selena Fernandez arrives in her family's newly renovated home in Lima, Peru, from the United States of America, determined to create a new life. Her dark past, however, catches up with her. Welcomed by her family warmly, she is haunted by an eerie presence in the house. Teaming up with Martin, a history student, she tries to unravel the secrets of the house in an effort to stop the recurring pleas and paranormal activity that is now tormenting her. Tracing the history of the house, she is on the verge of solving the puzzle, but Selena will later realize that it is not only the house that is haunted.
“The Crossing” is a paranormal fiction that can give you the goose bumps without resorting to blood and gore that characterize many books in this genre. The author has to be commended for her beautiful descriptive style that comes out naturally. As I turn the pages of the book, I can feel the build up of suspense that is absolutely not contrived. The mystery of the haunting unravels slowly and the author obviously knows her subject very well. It has a clearly defined plot and vivid characters which is sadly lacking in a number of paranormal fiction stories. I especially like the unraveling of Selena Fernandez's intriguing past that is revealed just at the right time in this narrative. I highly recommend “The Crossing” for those who enjoy having a scare in their reading time, without feeling cheated at the end.
