The Dark Assent by Angela Dunham is a short paranormal/horror story. Edward Griffin is struggling to make ends meet for his wife and family. He has a secret – he can wield magic, and so can their youngest daughter. Desperate, he casts a spell that he hopes will help but brings forth nothing more than pure evil. He must make a choice – lose it all or give himself to the evil. A blood pact is forged, and his bloodline is cursed forever. Emma Griffin is about to finish college, but she has a deep sense of foreboding. Heading off to her family’s lake house for the weekend with her friends, she hopes the bad feeling will go away, but when she finds a journal, she learns about her family’s dark past. The only way she can survive the curse is to unravel the secrets but she must do so without letting the hellish monsters loose on an unsuspecting world. Is Emma the one destined to break the curse?
The Dark Assent by Angela Dunham is a short but compelling read. You’ll be gripped from the first page by a tale that draws you in; a tale of the battle against evil. This is a well-written story that will have you on the edge of your seat, your heart pounding in terror. The characters are entirely likable, even those who aren’t what they appear to be, and you’ll find them easy to relate to. The plot is unique, and the ending is surprising; one you won’t see coming. This is a straightforward story but an entertaining one that tells of the consequences of every decision. This is a great read for when you’ve got half an hour to kill, but it might just have you questioning those things you see out of the corner of your eye, and wondering what secrets the people you meet are hiding. Are they really who they seem to be? Highly recommended for fans of short paranormal stories.
