Book Two of The Ruins of Arlandia series, The Dark Terror, by William F.F. Wood continues the adventure. The Goremog are determined to hunt down and destroy all life in the universe. Calvin and Astra continue their desperate search for the eight remaining pieces of a super weapon, a weapon that is supposed to save them all. But, time is quickly running out as the Goremog release a terrifying being; part powerful robot and part ferocious predator. These monsters are rapidly spreading death and destruction across space. As they search for the next piece of the weapon, they encounter danger at almost every turn. But, it’s all up to Calvin and Astra if they are to assemble the weapon before it’s too late.
I found The Dark Terror to be an appealing read. It is filled with nonstop action, adventure and intrigue. The characters are interesting, from humanoids to robots, and even the monsters. The dialogue is done well. The plot moves along at a rapid pace to keep the reader wanting to turn the page to see what happens next. This story begins where the last one left off. That’s okay, but the main characters should be reintroduced along with the main story line. That way a reader who has not read the original tale will understand what’s happening. Overall, it’s a good sci-fi story. With a reintroduction of the characters, it could have been a very good story.
