Her conflicts with Po Tsai were increasing, and this one happened when Mogu discovered she was the only one being paid in opium. Mogu picked up the weapons and stood her ground, and at this point, she was determined to become the greatest pirate in history to ever sail the South China Sea, determined to show what a woman could do. But how did Mogu become married to Zheng? She had been a prostitute, and although prostitution was illegal in Guangzhou, a legal loophole had allowed flowerboats to exist for this purpose. During her work there, she used her charm to get information from high government officials for Zheng. To find out how events unfold between Zheng Yi, Po Tsai, and Mogu and their adventures, get a copy of The Dragon From Guangzhou by D. W. Plato.
I love books with strong female characters, and The Dragon From Guangzhou by D. W. Plato didn't disappoint. The fast-paced narration kept me on my toes, and the flawlessly flowing plotline kept me intrigued and entertained. Plato also included vivid descriptions of events and places, which helped create a mental picture of what was happening. I would love to see this book adapted into a movie. The characters are well-developed and relatable. Readers will be hooked on the strong character of Mogu, who leaves her mark despite being in a male-dominated era. I cannot wait to savor something else by this talented author.
Yumi Chu did a wonderful job with the narration. With her intonations and voice variations, she brought the story to life. It was wonderful to listen to her, and I loved when she changed her voice from female to male characters. This audiobook is a page-turner, an endless adventure without leaving my couch, and once I started, I couldn't stop listening.
